Upholstery is not just about recovering furniture, it’s reimagining pieces that have sentimental value, an item you have had for years and would like to look stunning and completely different using beautiful fabrics. Whether you are coming from a completely different field and are ready for a change or you would simply like to try upholstery for a day, we have the course to suit you. These courses are designed to equip you with the knowledge, techniques and hands on experience to help you succeed. We have the 6 week Intensive Course which you can attend every day or only on days that suit you. During this course we cover the projects that are most often requested by customers. As you progress through the work you will be transforming ordinary pieces into extraordinary ones and gaining skills to inspire you to start that new career and launch your own upholstery business. Perhaps you have an armchair that you have always wanted to get reupholstered but just haven't got around to it. With our 1 week course you will learn the skills to create a real statement chair with gorgeous new fabrics that will be unique and certainly not available in the shops ! Or maybe you would prefer to bring along a smaller project like a footstool or dining chair and spend a day with us in the workshop. You will have fun and learn some skills to take away with you to upcycle small pieces of furniture for your home and enjoy a really creative hobby. Whichever course you choose, you will explore the fundamentals of upholstery, from understanding materials and tools to mastering techniques like deep buttoning, webbing, padding and stitching. You will discover the importance of design and attention to detail and how it influences the final look of your project.

We cover a large range of upholstery projects, particularly those our customers ask for most often. We will tackle armchairs, wing chairs, dining chairs, box cushions, scatter cushions, headboards and footstools. Here are just a few of the skills you will learn during this course. Webbing, padding, measuring furniture and calculating fabric, pattern matching, making a cutting plan, deep and shallow buttoning, making trims and fitting zips. Our commitment to your success goes beyond the workshop because we understand that mastering upholstery is a journey that extends way into the future, we all continue to learn new things for years ! That's why we offer optional ongoing support with a dedicated phone consultation once a month for an entire year to discuss progress and any advice you may need with your projects. Free of charge Additionally, if you are struggling with a project you can arrange a time and bring it to the workshop for help and advice. We are here to guide you, answer your questions and offer advice as you continue to perfect your skills. This mentorship is 1-2-1 with myself and includes 1 day per month studio time, where I can assist with any project you are working on. Also includes dedicated telephone support for an entire year to discuss progress and any advice you may need with your projects. Plus access to my exclusive whatsapp group with other students where we share, support and offer advice to assist you with your new business.

This course is designed to give new life to old furniture. In a world where sustainability is becoming increasingly important, the ability to transform tired old pieces into stunning one of a kind creations is a skill worth mastering. So unleash your creativity and create something that reflects your unique style. This course will guide you through the essential techniques, principles and use of tools in modern upholstery. We will cover everything from, removing old fabric from an armchair and repadding, through to fabric selection and pattern matching. Making box cushion covers with fitted zips and making piping trims. By the end of this course, you will have the skills and confidence to tackle your own upholstery upcycling projects with ease. This is the ideal time to save money and express your creativity! Note - Please call to discuss the suitability of the item you would like to bring to work on. We have accounts with a large selection of fabric suppliers and can advise on the suitability of fabric and order fabrics for you.

Taster Day

Looking To Learn The Basics

1 Day Upholstery Training

We are thrilled to introduce you to our Upholstery Taster Day. Whether you are a complete novice or have tackled a project at home and keen to learn new skills, this taster day is for you. We will guide you through the basics, from mastering new techniques to selecting fabrics that will breathe new life into tired furniture. Throughout the day you will have fun in a relaxed workshop. We will tackle a small item, a dining chair or a small footstool. You will learn all about the tools we use and the materials and skills required to create a beautiful item for your home. Please contact us to discuss suitability of the item you would like to bring. We hope this Taster Day inspires you to explore upholstery further and perhaps discover a new creative hobby. Note - Tools are provided for student use. Any additional padding and fabrics will need to be paid for on the day.

General Course Information

Course Times are 9.30am to 4.30pm Monday - Friday

 

Payment

A deposit of 50% of the course fee is payable when booking and this deposit is non-returnable. 

The balance is due 4 weeks before the start date. 

 

If you would like to book a course and there are less than 4 weeks before the start date, payment in full is required at the time of booking.

 

In the unlikely event that the course has to be cancelled by me, I will offer alternative dates.

If you need to postpone before the start date , I will be happy to offer alternative dates and your deposit will be held over for the new course date booked.

  • Should I Bring Lunch?
    Yes, bring lunch. We do provide refreshments, tea, coffee etc. There is a shop in the village where you can buy lunch if you prefer.
  • Is There Parking?
    Yes we have ample free parking on site
  • Do I Need To Bring Tools?
    If you have tools you are welcome to bring them. However, all tools are provided for students to use.
  • What Should I Wear?
    Please wear suitable footwear. Also, this is a working environment where we have heaters but bring layers in the colder months.
  • How Do I Book And Pay For My Course?
    Please enquire via our website or give me a call. We can discuss your preferred dates and then confirm your booking. A deposit is required to book your chosen dates with the balance due within 4 weeks of start date. If you would like to attend the 6 week intensive modern upholstery course, we can offer flexible payments in instalments.
